November and whatever that is left of the year promises to be exciting, and we've not one, but two projects lined up (!!)

Projek Sentuh: Seksualiti dan Tubuh (Sempena 16 Hari Aktivisma Menentang Keganasan Terhadap Wanita)

Calling for Participants!

Project Sentuh is an art + activism event to highlight discrimination on the basis of sexuality in Malaysia using installation art, theatre performances and more.

We are calling for participants interested in these issues to join us! Participants will go through a workshop with trained facilitators from inter-disciplinary backgrounds and must be available during these days:

Workshop
21 & 22/28 & 29 Nov: 5pm-10.30pm
23 Nov-27 Nov : 7.30pm - 10.30pm
@ Five Arts Centre, Tmn Tun Dr. Ismail.

Performance date
5th December @ Pekan Frinjan

Fee: RM30/person
Open to all. No theatre/performance background needed! Limited space for only 25 participants!

Culture Box Exchange (Phase 2)

We're back with the second section of the Culture Box Exchange we did earlier this year in March! We would like to invite participants to join us in opening boxes we received from Harrogate Youth Theatre (UK) and to explore the contents and have a blast creating and playing with creativity.

(for ages 12-15 and 16 and above)
Dates: 21-29 November 2009
Venue: Five Arts Centre (TTDI)
Workshop fees: RM50 per person

About us (briefly)

Project Connect is an art collective which came together after a year-long arts exchange between Malaysia and the United Kingdom. After a few teh-O's they decided that it would be a good idea to stick around longer and try to do stuff together. After all they managed to still be amicable friends even after travelling across the world together and facing each other almost everyday. Being trapped next to one another on a 14 hour long flight with no elbow/leg space can be deemed as the ultimate test. They passed.

The group comprise young people from various artistic backgrounds such as the visual arts, videography, theatre and poetry. They perform together, create and collaborate, run workshops, organise performances and hang out. They mostly hang out.

Our mission is to
1. Create art that is honest, accessible and progressive
2. To use art as a tool to create sustainable community work

The collective desires to create and explore new art forms and to continue to learn, absorb and share, and hope to embark on several projects close to their hearts. Watch out for updates on the blog for new and on-going projects.

They are not funded or for profit. All expenses are covered through fundraising, their own pockets, in kind and through the kindness and support of people like you.

The faces that maketh Project Connect:

Tan Hui Koon is an art lecturer.
Nurul Dayanna Norjiis going to be a mom soon.

Patricia Low is a lecturer and freelance
illustrator/photographer. She does theatre
and organises gigs with Priya.

Priya Kulasagaran is a journalist at The Star
and a poet. She toured the UK in 2008 with the
British Council.

Nurul Hamizah is currently pursuing her
degree at Central School of Speech &
Drama, London.

Fairuz Sulaiman is a video artist and does freelance
projects.
